Renting an air compressor isn’t as simple as contacting a provider and filling out relevant forms before renting the machine. That is because you first need to determine how you will use the air compressor, which tools you will use, and other factors before determining which compressor is ideally suited for your needs. At Central Power Systems & Services, we can help you zero in on the equipment that will provide optimal performance for your applications. Our air compressor rental process includes helping you answer the following questions.
Are you nailing, painting, drilling, or boring? Each of the tools used for these operations requires varying degrees of pressure for consistent, reliable operation. This is measured in pounds per square inch with air compressors, more commonly known as PSI. It can also be measured in cubic feet per minute, or CFM. Before renting an air compressor, you will want to read the plate on your tools or within the owner’s manual to determine how much PSI or CFM the tool requires.
For most applications, you will want to ensure your air compressor rental has sufficient capacity to run multiple tools simultaneously. To achieve this, add up the individual requirements of each tool you expect to operate simultaneously, then multiply this by 30 to 40 percent. This will give you a solid buffer that will help ensure your tools aren’t gasping for air.
Do you have suitable air hoses, air couplers, filters, pressure regulators, lubricants, personal protective equipment, etc.? Your rental agent can help confirm you have suitable length air hoses and other accessories for the tasks you want to perform. They can include these as part of the rental package in many cases.
Will the compressor be positioned outside or inside? Will it be protected from the elements, unauthorized access, and thieves? Safety and security are paramount with any air compressor rental, and you will want to determine the safest location possible to protect it from damage and theft.
Will the rental company deliver the unit, or will you need to pick it up? Do you have an experienced driver and a reliable vehicle with the towing capacity to haul the compressor to its destination safely?
Unless it’s an electric air compressor, the longer you need the air compressor rental, the more likely you will need to refuel the system. Confirm what type of fuel is required and whether there are any requirements regarding where and how you should purchase fuel.
Always confirm what maintenance the air compressor requires and who is responsible for maintaining the system while it is in your possession. If you are responsible for the maintenance, go through all the required maintenance procedures with the rental agent before taking possession of the air compressor. If the rental company is responsible, confirm the process for requesting maintenance, repairs, and, if necessary, a replacement air compressor.
